Chad Tucker, Jr., 24, Fredericksburg, was arrested and preliminarily charged with criminal mischief, battery and attempted arson following an altercation between him and his father, Chad Tucker, Sr., on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Deputy Paul Ginkins said in his report he was on his way to a home on North Becks Mill Road in Fredericksburg regarding a battery when he heard dispatchers tone out a fire department to the same address. When he arrived, he spoke with Tucker Sr., who said his son had set the garage on fire.

Tucker Jr. refused to open the garage door at first, but did eventually allow Ginkins to enter and he saw the fire on the floor of the garage. He handcuffed Tucker Jr. and Tucker Sr. was able to put the fire out with several buckets of water.

Tucker Jr. said his father had told him to clean up the garage and claimed his father had struck him in the neck. He then began talking about things Ginkins said he couldn’t understand.

Tucker Sr. said his son had left the home about six weeks before, but returned Nov. 30, banging on the doors of the home, saying he wanted his belongings. Tucker Sr. said his son knocked the plexiglass out of the screen door and a pane of glass out of the home’s main entry door. When Tucker Jr. made it inside the home, his father went outside. He said, as he left the porch, his son attacked him, knocking him to the ground, biting his back and bruised his cheek under his right eye. When Tucker Sr. informed his son he was calling the police, he said his son told him he would burn the garage down.

Tucker Jr. refused to speak with Ginkins again, so he proceeded to take him to the Washington County Detention Center.
