Just before 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Abby Powers was sent to take a stolen vehicle report at Casey’s General Store in Pekin. Soon after, a caller from MJ Auto Sales reported a customer causing a disturbance. Deputy Nathan Maudlin, who was in the area looking for the stolen vehicle, responded.

He found the vehicle at MJ Auto. Someone there told him a customer had been demanding to test drive a maroon Camaro and had left the area in the Camaro, traveling west on State Road 60.

Deputies Brent Miller and Ryan Larrimore were traveling toward Pekin when they saw the maroon Camaro near Motsinger Road on State Road 60. They made a felony traffic stop on the vehicle and after a short pursuit, arrested Michael S. Kemper, 37, Salem, for auto theft and resisting law enforcement.

Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas assisted with the investigation.
