Logan Norris, 22, Jeffersonville, was arrested on multiple charges after an altercation on Jan. 9.

Washington County Deputy Paul Ginkins and Indiana State Trooper Kyle Taylor were sent to a home on East Banet Road in Salem after reports of gunshots. Dispatchers told them Norris had left the home in a gray Jeep Cherokee.

However, the officers found Norris standing next to another garage on that street, and the Jeep was in that driveway. They placed him in handcuffs and asked him what happened.

“What did Dad say?” Norris asked.

Ginkins told him he hadn’t spoken with Norris’s father, Eric Norris. Logan Norris told him he and his father had gotten into an argument over a job Logan Norris was supposed to do, and then Logan Norris left the home. Ginkins placed him in his patrol car and went to Eric Norris’s home.

Eric Norris told Ginkins Logan Norris became agitated when he asked him about the status of the job while standing outside Logan Norris’s car, which was parked in Eric Norris’s driveway. Eric Norris told Ginkins he then changed the subject and asked his son what had broken on the foam machine and that Logan Norris became even more agitated, so Eric Norris began to walk away. That’s when he said his son pointed a gun out the window and fired a shot into the air and told him to get away from him. Eric Norris told Gikins his son told him he would shoot him if he wanted to.

A witness corroborated Eric Norris’s story and called the police after the gunshot.

Taylor located a black Smith and Wesson .22 caliber handgun, along with ammunition, in Logan Norris’s vehicle. Taylor said the gun was loaded and had one spent casing jammed in the action. He also found a partial marijuana cigarette inside a tobacco cigarette box in the center console.

Logan Norris was preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana hash oil, hashish or salvia, and theft.

This isn’t Logan Norris’s first run-in with law enforcement. He was arrested on a warrant for battery in July 2018, along with possession of controlled substance in Dec. 2018. He was arrested in June 2019 on two warrants for auto theft and another charge of auto theft, a warrant for invasion of privacy and another charge of invasion of privacy, and released in September 2019.
