Just before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Washington County Sheriffs Department received a telephone call regarding a horse that had partially fallen through the ice on a local farm pond and needed rescued. The location was on Voyles Road, about a mile south of State Road 60.

Sheriff Roger Newlon, Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas, the Indiana State Police and members of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.

First Resonders were able to assist the owners of the horse and remove the horse from the pond. The horse was able to stand on it’s own, shortly after being rescued from the pond. A veterinarian service was called to the farm to examine the horse for possible injuries.
