Just after 3 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, Salem Police Officer Chris Cauble notified with Washington County Sheriff's Department of a personal injury wreck that had occurred on Beeline Road, just west of Rush Creek Road. Deputies responded to the scene with the Salem Fire Department and Washington County EMS.

Cauble, who witnessed the accident, said a 2004 Crown Victoria passenger car, driven by Jesse Simpson, 34, Salem, had been traveling westbound on Beeline Road when it ran off of the south side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The impact of the vehicle broke the utility pole off at its base and brought the power line to the ground. As a result of the crash, power outages occurred, primarily throughout the northern half of Salem.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Simpson was transported to St. Vincent-Salem Hospital and was airlifted from there to University of Louisville Hospital, complaining of abdominal pain. The extent of his injuries is still unknown.
