Brewer trial ends with guilty plea

The first jury trial since COVID-19 in Washington County didn’t end in the hands of the jury.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, Jason Brewer decided after his trial had already begun to plead guilty to child solicitation, a level 5 felony.

“I am pleased to get the conviction on the highest charge,” said Washington County Prosecutor Dustin Houchin. “On behalf of the victim and her family, we look forward to securing a strong and just sentence.”

The trial was the result of charges that were filed against Brewer in December of 2018.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the prosecutor’s office by Indiana State Trooper Tyler Matthew states that a female juvenile victim reported to her school resources officer an incident of sexual abuse that took place at Brewer’s residence.

The victim alleges that she witnessed Brewer watching porn and an incident where Brewer exposed himself to her and asked her if she wanted to touch his penis.

In the PC affidavit Matthew said he interviewed Brewer who admitted to an encounter when he noticed the alleged victim watching him watch pornography from the corner of the room.

The report said he told the officer he may have made a dumb remark, but did not remember the exact words, but it might have been along the lines of “Do you like this?”

Matthew said when he asked if Brewer could have made a comment about his penis he said he could have.

In order to protect the identity of the alleged victim and possible other alleged victims, some information was left out of this story.

Brewer’s sentencing will be Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. in Washington Circuit Court.

A level 5 felony carries a sentence of one to six years.
