A senior at Salem High School, Joshua W. Hoke, recently enlisted in the U.S. Army Delayed Entry Program and will report for active duty June, 2000.

Two Washington County residents have completed requirements for their GED, according to instructor Mark Hobson. The graduates are Cory E. McGlaughlin and Karen J. Wininger.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology conferred degrees to approximately 375 students at the college's 121st commencement. Among the degree recipients is Joshua Motsinger, Salem, son of Steven Motsinger and Wanda Hattabaugh. Motsinger received a degree in mechanical engineering. 

Three new teachers were hired for the 1999-2000 school year at West Washington. Lowell F. Kamman, Andrea Backherms and Jackie Emberton.

Canton United Methodist Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary August 22nd.

The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana has awarded scholarships to several students in this area. Among the recipients is Joshua Routh, West Washington, who plans to attend Purdue University to study pharmacy or agriculture. Routh, received a Paul Ogle Scholarship which provides $20,000 over 4 years.
