Walter Truman "Wally" Rice

Walter Truman "Wally" Rice, 83, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on April 1, 1936 in Floyd County, Indiana, the son of the late Casper Rice, Sr. and Margaret Vivian (Arbuckle) Rice. Wally graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1954. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Cornell Harbison Excavating in Floyd County, Indiana and helped develop the Blackiston Heights Subdivision in Clarksville, Indiana. Wally also was a farmer for over 20 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana, where he had served as a Deacon and Elder and was a 30 year member of the Operators Union #181. Wally was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Mary W. (Bateman) Rice on March 6, 1997. On February 26, 1998, he married Phyllis M. Rice. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Charlotte Ann Johnson of Ft. Myers, Florida and Peggy Sue Perry (Randy) of Scottsburg, Indiana; a son, Walter T. Rice, Jr. (Linda) of Ferdinand, Indiana; a stepson, William Lee Anderson (Jean) of Michigan; four stepdaughters, Roberta Coats (Loren) of Pekin, Indiana, Joyce Ann Godfrey (Jon) of Borden, Indiana, Debbie Lockard (Terry) of Salem, Indiana and Amanda Sue O'Keefe of Pekin, Indiana; two sisters, Peggy Joan Everley (Bill) and Jane Rutherford all of Florida; a brother, Casper Rice, Jr. (Linda) of Florida; six grandchildren, Matthew Perry (Stephanie), Laura Jones (Travis), Michael Rice, Jeffery Rice (Ashley), Tammy Hoppenjans (Nick) and Eli Johnson (Catherine); eight great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren and one living aunt, Charlotte Millard Arbuckle. Funeral services will be private due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, CDC recommendations and the families wishes. Services may be viewed on the First Christian Church's Facebook page at 2:00 pm on Sunday. March 22, 2020 with Phil LaMaster and Walter T. Rice, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery near Underwood, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be given to either the First Christian Church or Fairview Cemetery Association c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
