Roy V. Winslow

Roy V. Winslow, 97, Parsons, Kansas, died  at 8:15 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2021, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1923, in Salem to Harry F. and Olevia L. (Boling) Winslow. He attended Salem schools and after high school graduation enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the LST 124 and LST 592 in World War II. 
After the war he moved to Kansas and had a career of over 30 years with the railroad, both the M-K-T and Rock Island. He had lived in Kansas City, Missouri; Little Rock, Arkansas; Herington, Kansas and Grantville, Kansas before returning to Parsons in 1999. 
He was a member of the IAM Machinist Union Local 293 of Parsons. He was an avid semi-professional roller skater and enjoyed participating in bowling leagues for many years. He loved fishing and feeding birds and in his yard. 
Roy and Glendola “Toots” Banta were married on May 9, 1956, and were happily married 50 years when she died on November 11, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roy L. Winslow, two brothers Roger Winslow and Burl Winslow, a sister, Maxine Brough and his parents. 
Survivors include a son, Richard Winslow,  Indianapolis; a grandson; and a brother, Max E. Winslow, Salem and numerous nieces and nephews. 
A memorial service was held at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Pastor Pat McReynolds officiating and with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post # 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial followed in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
