Phyllis Marjorie (Nelson) Mull

Phyllis Marjorie (Nelson) Mull, 92, of Salem, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 21, 2020, at her residence at Skyline Suites Assisted Living.

Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Washington County, born Sept. 19, 1927, one of six children born to Samuel Edward and Anna Mae Nelson.

She was a 1945 Salem High School graduate and cherished memories of her friends and classmates. Marjorie was a devote Christian, showing her faith in Jesus Christ throughout her long life. She was a faithful member of the Conway Church congregation, attending until her health failed.

On Nov. 16, 1945, she married Elgin Lorain Mull, while he was in on a furlough from the Army, during World War II. They were united in marriage nearly 57 years until Elgin preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2002. Together they were fourth generation owners and operators of the Mulls’ General Store in South Boston, until retiring in 1996.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five siblings; Forrest W. Nelson, Edsel L. Nelson, Doyle L. Nelson, Max E. Nelson and Joyce M (Nelson) Young.

Survivors include her children, Carol Ann (Charles) Gilliland of Lehigh, Iowa; Dale Elgin Mull of Palatka, Florida and Mary Lou (Frank) McCarty of Salem; five grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Lillie, Texas; Jeremy (Ngoc) Gilliland, Texas; Amy (Tim ) McDowell, Iowa; Brad Pennington, Florida and Toya (Matt) Remaly, Kentucky; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no services at this time. Dawalt Funeral Home, Salem, is entrusted with arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
