Mr. Nathan A. Thomas age 81 of Salem passed away Friday, January 19 at Baptist Health Floyd.

Mr. Thomas was born August 4, 1936 in Carmel, Indiana the son of Hershey and Ruth Cross Thomas.  He was a retired Indiana State Trooper.  He was also a former maintenance employee for St. Vincent Hospital Salem and was currently employed at Jay C Food Store.  He was an Army veteran.  He was a member of Washington County Fish and Game Club and was active in Duck’s Unlimited with his grandson.  He was a long- time volunteer for Washington County 4-H and was awarded the Friend of 4-H award in 2005.

Nathan is survived by his wife:  Julie Courtney Thomas.  They were married January 21, 1994.  He is also survived by two sons:  Mike Kirby of Marion Center, Pennsylvania and Christopher Martin of Salem, three daughters:  Ginnie Bierly of Pekin, Lori Landreth of O’fallon, Illinois and Joni Muchler of Salem, a sister:  Natalie Cotton of Arcadia, Indiana, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife:  Elizabeth Beck Thomas.  He then married JoAnn Bohannon Thomas and she also preceded him in death along with his son:  Jeffrey Thomas and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6PM and Monday from 9AM-time of service.
