Miss Marjorie “Margie” J. Rutherford age 91 of Salem, passed away Wednesday, December 4 at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Rutherford was born July 28, 1928 in Washington County the sixth child of James Harley and Mabel Weston Rutherford. She was born at home on the family farm in Delaney’s Creek bottoms. Margie is a lifelong resident of Washington County, having lived on the farm that her great-grandfather William Weston homesteaded in 1852, until the age of 87 when she moved to town.

She was baptized at Crossroads Baptist Church, and was a member of Blue River Friends Church. Margie enjoyed her rose bush and other flowers, along with sitting on her enclosed front porch in the sun.

Margie is survived by one sister: Dorene Rutherford of Salem, with whom she has lived every day of her life with. She is also survived by one brother: Howard Rutherford (Carmen) of Orleans, four nieces, eight nephews, thirty great-nieces & nephews, and nine great-great-nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by four brothers: Volney, James, Murl, and Everett Rutherford, three sisters: Flossie Louise Collins, Stella Bridgewater, and her infant sister at birth, a great-nephew: Noah Bridgewater, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 10 at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10AM-until time of service at the funeral home.
