Mae Irene Scifres, age 98 of Salem, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 5:36 am, in the Meadow View Health Care Center.

Born February 8, 1920 in Fowler, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Everett and Mary Josephine (Wilson) Nichols.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Little York Christian Church, had been a resident of Washington County for most of her life and was a 1938 graduate of Little York High School.  She was a Charter member of the Little York American Legion Auxiliary and a 51 year member of the Little York Order of Easter Star #512.

On October 1, 1938 she married Joseph M. Scifres, who passed away Feb. 27, 1990.

Survivors include:  2 Sons: Paul E. (Jinny) Scifres of Salem and Eugene (Joann) Scifres of Lady Lake, Florida; 1 Brother: Melvin Nichols of Lexington, Indiana; 1 Sister: Catherine Click of Scottsburg; 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Arnold and Orville Nichols.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Monday at Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by interment in Little York Cemetery.

Visitation: 1 to 4 pm Sunday and 9 am until the time of the service on Monday.
