Joan Marie (Cleveland) Sturgeon

Joan Marie (Cleveland) Sturgeon, 83, of Seymour, IN, passed away at 5:15 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, IN.

Joan was born on Thursday, April 16, 1936 in Gibson Co., IN. She was the daughter of Earl and Lydia (Bertram) Cleveland. Both parents preceded her in death.

Joan was a graduate of Tampico High School. She furthered her education and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Business at Ball State University.

On Friday, August 26, 1960 at Tampico Baptist Church, she married Roger Lee Sturgeon. He passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. 

Joan retired from Farm Credit Services as an accounting auditor and Pretium Packaging in 2004, taught High School Business at Crothersville High School, worked as a legal secretary, a paralegal, and also for Maxim Truck Company.  She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Seymour where she had a servant’s heart to serve her church and the community. She sang in the church choir and served on the mission board.  Joan enjoyed cooking, baking, was a talented and excellent  homemaker and was active in her local home ec club.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Savannah (Randy Hill) Stein of Seymour, IN, 1 grandson, Blake Christopher (Sarah) Stein of Seymour, IN, and Abby, her little dog, who she loved so much that came to visit her at the nursing home every evening.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gary Cleveland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, all at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville.
