Jean Marshall, age 97, passed away peacefully in hospice care on December 22 in Bountiful, Utah after a serious fall the previous day. Jean was born January 16, 1920 in Byrneville, Harrison County, Indiana to Goldie Kepley and Charles M Byrne. She was the 10th of 12 children, who all preceded her in passing. During World War II she served in the Women's Army Corps in the motor pool at Ford Devens, Massachusetts. She very much enjoyed her time in the WACs. She married Woody Marshall of Salem, Indiana in 1945 and they ran the business Marshall Monuments which exists to this day and is owned by Bob Strong. They had 4 sons. Joining the LDS church in 1965 led to divorce and she and her sons moved to Utah in 1967. She worked as a typist and secretary at various jobs including at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. One of her favorite jobs was as a typesetter for Cleon Skousen at the National Center for Constitutional Studies. She was very patriotic throughout her life and had a great love of American history and the Constitution.
She had a lifetime love for playing music, and could play by ear or by sheet music on piano, organ, accordion and mandolin. Retiring in 1988 she moved to St. George, Utah where she formed a senior citizen band of 9 musicians. They played at seven local nursing homes every week for years. In 2011 she moved into Welcome Home assisted living center in Bountiful, Utah until her passing. She is survived by 4 sons, John (Kent WA), Scott (Bartlett TN), Bill and Rex (both of West Bountiful UT), 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
