James V. Stamper

James V. Stamper, AKA “Red”, 82, of Corydon, passed peacefully with his children by his side at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020.  Dad was born October 26, 1937 in, Allview, Kentucky, to Enoch Jr. and Myrtle Tudor Stamper.  He was their firstborn.  Dad was born prematurely at home weighing approximately three pounds.  He was cared for by his mommy, grandmothers and aunts.  He thrived on goat’s milk from a dropper, and was kept in a shoebox placed near the woodstove to keep warm.  This was the beginning of the story to be told of how strong our Daddy was.

He worked so hard all his life, beginning on the family farm to our own small farm.  Mom and Dad grew large gardens so we would have food year round.

James was an auto body man, retiring from Gerdon Auto Sales.  He was a member of Tabernacle of Worship in Brandenburg, Kentucky.

He is survived by his children, Donna White, Lee Stamper and Joy Benko (Daniel) all of Corydon; his grandchildren, Jesse Stamper, Shaina Stamper (Tim), James Benko (Hannah), Cody Stamper and Leela Stamper (Andy); his great grandchildren, Levi Zollman and Ezra James Benko-Storm; his sister, Catherine Crafton of Wisconsin; his brothers, Pastor Billy Stamper, LaVaughn Stamper and Donald Stamper all of the Richmond and Irvine areas of Kentucky; many nieces and nephew; and his beloved fur babies, Ruby, Toby, Zoe & Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty Jean; his parents; and his brothers, Johnny Stamper and Ernest Stamper.

Dad was the most soft spoken and humble man.  He never had a bad word to say about anyone.  Dad and Mom instilled strong work ethics in all three of us kids.  They taught us to love the Lord.  Dad loved his family and loved the Lord above all.  He is now home with Jesus and Mommy.  The grief is strong, for the best Daddy ever is gone.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2020, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Pastor Billy Stamper will officiate.  Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery near Laconia, Indiana.

Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Lee, Jesse, and Cody Stamper, James Benko-Storm, Daniel Benko and Grandell Watkins.  Honorary pallbearers will be Sterling Watkins, Jr., LaVaughn and Donald Stamper and Clinton Lee Crafton, Jr.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite pet rescue.
