Irvin Eugene Smith

Irvin Eugene Smith was born on July 26, 1946 to Ora Kintner Smith and Claude Richard Smith in Corydon, Indiana.  He grew up as a farm boy until he went into the military and served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army.  Upon getting an honorable discharge, he returned home and started a family with Rebecca Parris Smith where they had three beautiful children.  He later remarried Rose Marie Heinz Smith and together they raised a blended family.  They lived together in Depauw/Palmyra, Indiana until his passing on November 11, 2020 from a four year battle with lung cancer.

Irvin was a highly respected bridge superintendant for over fifty years.  He was known by many state engineers as a very dedicated, high quality work performing man with many skills in bridge and road construction work in both Indiana and Kentucky.  Even after his diagnosis of stage 4 aggressive lung cancer, he continued working and doing the things he loved, including refurbishing his and Rosie’s 100 year plus home on North Road in Depauw.

Irvin will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by many.  Rose will remember Irvin as the most perfect, caring, loving man and husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rebecca Parris Smith; and his brother, Marvin Smith.
