Howard James Stewart

Howard James Stewart, 74, of Salem and formerly of Brownstown, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2019 at his home. He had been ill for 3 years. Howard was a graduate of Clearspring High School, was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Salem, and retired from REMC as an Operations Manager after 43 years of employment. He also became an ordained minister on May 21, 1988.  Howard enjoyed fishing and remodeling houses.

He was born on January 11, 1945, in Seymour to the late Carson and Una Miner Stewart. On February 5, 1966, he married Donna Fish Stewart and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2012.  On July 20, 2012, he married Lucy Davidson Stewart and she survives in Salem. Other survivors include a son, James (Dee) Stewart of West Chester, Ohio; 4 step-children, Alicia Whittle, Christy Casey, Randy Edmondson all of Salem and Vicky Lynn Frances of Louisville; 2 grandchildren—Ariana (CJ) Allen & Drake Stewart; 7 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife—Donna, a daughter—Rebecca Stewart, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Justin Ackeret officiating.  Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  Burial will take place at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Highland Baptist Church.
