Florence Pearl Johnson

Florence Pearl Johnson, 85, long-time resident of Salem, Indiana, passed away on August 13, 2018 at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on May 17, 1933 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Robert W. Morrison and Florence (Rose) Morrison. Pearl grew up the daughter of an L&N railroad worker moving frequently up the L & N line from Tennessee to Kentucky. Pearl, as she is known to family and friends, and husband, William (Bill) Johnson moved to Salem in 1955.

 

While living in Salem, Pearl worked at the Four Points Grocery store, then cooked and served food at the Bradie M. Shrum Elementary School cafeteria, waitressed at Pard’s Pines restaurant and later, at the Salem Bowling Lanes for many years. She retired from Kimball Office Furniture in Borden. After retirement she worked for Blue River Industries and volunteered distributing bulletins for the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. and enjoyed bowling on the Thursday Night Women’s Bowling League where she racked up many a trophy. She loved all music but really enjoyed Elvis and the Oak Ridge Boys. She also loved all movies starring John Wayne. Prior to leaving Salem, she took many road trips with her good friend, Charlotte Lewis (deceased) to include one of her favorite trips to Graceland. She also enjoyed time with her family. Her grandkids loved when she would play the “Footloose” soundtrack and danced up a storm in the den.

 

In addition to her parents, Pearl is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Johnson and her brothers, John Morrison, Robert Earl Morrison, James Morrison and her sisters, Shirley Esters and Clara Wisman. Pearl has one surviving sister, Dorothy Wylie of Horse Cave, KY.

 

Survivors also include: her son, Charles Johnson and his wife Terri of Pleasureville, KY; her daughters Brenda Knight and husband Lee of Leland, N.C.; Teresa Diehl and husband Sam of Warriors Mark, PA; and Reita Rosenbaum and  husband Brad of Fort Wayne, IN; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be at Weathers Funeral Home beginning Wednesday night from 4 to 7 pm and Thursday from 9 to 12.

Funeral Service begins at 12:00 pm, Thursday.
