Dorothy Marshall Hein

Dorothy Marshall Hein, Martinsburg, 103, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 after a brief illness.

Born July 7, 1914 in the Bear Creek community of Martinsburg, to Edgar and Cora Tash Marshall, she was the 8th of 10 children.  On March 1, 1934 she married Gale Wilson Hein and moved to the Hein farm a mile upstream on Bear Creek.  She was married to Gale for 64 years before his death in 1998.  She made her home at Providence Retirement Home for the last 3 years.

Dorothy was a faithful and lifelong member of the Martinsburg Church of Christ.  She was an avid quilter, gardener and cook.   She cooked for the Martinsburg School students until it closed in 1966.  She worked at the Charlestown Ammunition Depot during the WW2 and Vietnam wars.  She also worked on the family’s beef cattle and Christmas tree farm; making sure everybody was well fed.  On a typical Saturday; Dorothy prepared dinner for family, farm workers, and anyone else who stopped by until she was well over 100.

She attended  Pekin’s July 4th Celebrations for 103 years and was recognized as the oldest attendee of the event for at least the last 10 years.   She was honored to be the parade’s Grand Marshall in 2011.

In addition to her parents and husband, proceeding her in death is her son Jerry Marshall Hein, and her siblings Cordia (Ralph) Mann, Claud (Daisy) Marshall, Theodore (Ada) Marshall, Goldie Marshall, Willie (Mary) Marshall, Clem (Mildred) Marshall, Linda (Boyd) Rodman, Alva Marshall and Norma Marshall.

Surviving are daughter in law, Patsy Norris Hein, grandchildren Tom Hein, Mark (Lori) Hein, Sharon McBarron, and family friends Chris McKee and David LeMay, all of Martinsburg.  6 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.

Visitation is on Friday, December 22 from 2 to 7 pm at Love Funeral Home – Palmyra, Indiana and on Saturday, December 23 from 11 - 1 pm at the Martinsburg Church of Christ.  Funeral is 1 pm on Saturday December 23 at the Martinsburg Church of Christ.  Burial at Martinsburg Cemetery.
