Mrs. Doris Eleanor (Epperson) Hammond, passed away at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, IN, on Friday, June 26 at 2:40PM, surrounded by her children at the age of 93.

Doris was born March 3, 1927 to Willie and Beatrice McKee Epperson in Somerset, Kentucky.  On April 7, 1947 she married James Dewey Hammond, who preceded her in death on December 11, 2011.

Doris devoted her life to her family as a homemaker.  She was well known for her delicious sourdough bread, her giving heart, and made sure everyone was taken care of.  Having a love for Christ, Doris was a charter member of Westview Christian Church.

Dewey and Doris were blessed and survived by their five children:  Gary (Tisa) Hammond of New Albany, Sharon Dennis (Rick Smith) of Livonia, Jerry (Sherry) Hammond, Reta (Donnie) Haub, and Dennis (Sharon) Hammond all of Salem.  They also had 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 6 bonus great-grandchildren; and one brother:  Gene Epperson of Somerset, Kentucky.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law; Gary Dennis, and siblings; Hobart and Edgar Epperson and Katherine Harmon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Westview Christian Church at 1PM.  Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 3-8PM at Westview Christian Church and Tuesday from 11AM-time of service.

The family recommends that if you choose to attend the visitation and service that you wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westview Christian Church, c/o Reta Haub,  1471 N. Hammond Road, Salem, IN  47167.
