Donald B. Skeens, 71 of Scottsburg passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

He was born October 31, 1947 in New Albany, Indiana the son of the late Herman Edward and Emma Esther (Bottles) Skeens. 

Donald was retired from the Indiana National Guard after 24 years.  He also served in the U. S. Army for 8 years during the Vietnam War and again during Operation Desert Storm and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War. 
He retired in 2014 From Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington Campus.
He was a member of the Mt. Eden Christian Church, the Salem American Legion Cecil Grimes Post #41 and the Salem V. F. W. Post #6636    

On September 7, 1974 he married Alma Rachel (Jones) Skeens, who survives.

Also surviving are:  Daughter: Tiffany Burton of Salem; Son: Blaine (Sarah) Skeens of Greenville; 3 Brothers: Raymond (Mary) Skeens of Greenville, Johnnie Skeens of New Albany and Steven Skeens of Depauw;  8 Sisters: Rebecca (Stephen) Fields of Milton, Florida, Violet Fulkerson of Pekin, Brenda Johnson of Louisville, Nancy (Lowell) Mason of Georgetown, Robin (Harold) Adams of Sellersburg, Wanda Skeens of New Albany, Thelma (Leon) Banet of Georgetown and Linda Skeens and his Grandchildren: Xavier Burton of Salem and Maisie Skeens, Garrett Skeens and Weston Skeens, all of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: James Skeens, Louis Skeens and Ronald Skeens and 3 sisters: Kathryn Kemp, Mary Etta Skeens and Rosa Short.

Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Saturday at Dawalt Funeral Home followed by interment in Mt. Eden Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation: 9 am until the time of the service on Saturday.
