Berniece Nicholson

Berniece Nicholson, 100, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 at American Village in Indianapolis.

A funeral service for Berniece will be officiated by Mary Wendelin, formerly of Community Christian Church, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main St. Jeffersonville, IN, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Visitation for Berniece will be on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral center.

Berniece was born on Dec. 4, 1919 to the late John and Vinnie Naugle. Following graduation from Pekin High School, Berniece went on to work as a registered nurse until her retirement. After retirement, she also served as a volunteer hospice nurse. Berniece was always known for her kind and generous spirit and her amazing ability to listen. This led her and her husband to create “Personal Counseling Service” in Clarksville, and it is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year.

Berniece was also a woman of faith and was one of the charter members of Community Christian Church. There she volunteered her time and services any chance that she could.

There are so many things that Berniece was able to do in her 100 years of life, and nothing could slow her down. She is a breast cancer survivor and even went through a hip replacement at the age of 98. Her smile and excitement for life will carry on with all who knew her.

Along with her parents, Berniece is preceded in death by her loving husband, Clyde Nicholson; siblings, Carl (Irene) Naugle, Elsie (Harry) Williams, and Clara (Loren) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Surviving are her great nieces, Lisa (Joe) Zainey, Jane Naugle, Theresa Stafford, Trudy (Steve) Calvert, Judy (Larry) Jones, and Patricia Naugle; and great nephews, Mike Naugle, and Ricky (Jody) Naugle; dear friend and caretaker, Beverly Lynch; and numerous great, great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Personal Counseling Service, 1205 Applegate Ln, Clarksville, IN. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
