Basil Briscoe

Basil Paul Briscoe, 75, Mitchell, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

Born June 13, 1942, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Ora Virgil and Hopal Vera (Matthew) Briscoe. He married Karen Joyce Shoults December 27, 1963.

Basil had been employed at Kimball International and was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford and Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM.

Surviving: wife, Karen Briscoe of Mitchell; daughter, Joy Lynn (Tim) Drabing of French Lick; son, Tim (Jessica) Briscoe of Greenwood; 4 grandchildren; siblings, Robert (June) Briscoe of Bloomington, Bonnie Duncan of Bedford, Richard (Charlotte) Briscoe of Mitchell.

His parents, and siblings, Donald “Leroy” Briscoe, Louis “Doodle” Briscoe, Wilbur Briscoe, James Briscoe, Walter “Bus” Briscoe, Frances Briscoe, Fern Watson, and Ruby Smith, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Mitchell Cemetery with Reverend Bruce Ervin officiating. There will be no visitation at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
