Robert L. "Bob" Smith

Robert L. "Bob" Smith, 70, of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at University of Louisville Hospital. He was born on April 1, 1948 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the son of the late Wilmer and Mary Vernon (Reynolds) Smith. Bob was a retired employee of the old Regal Insulation in Crothersville, Indiana and also a former truck driver for the old C.T. Hertz Company in Speed, Indiana. He was a member of the old Fisherman's Paradise Christian Church and served during the Vietnam War as a Pvt E-1 (P) in the U.S. Army.
Bob liked to hunt and fish. He was a woodworker who could make about anything and loved raising his garden.
Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobby Jo Smith; five brothers, James O., Nelson, Clarence, Buddy and Roy Smith and two sisters, Opal Hardman and Edna Eldridge.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Janie S. (Kelley) Smith; two daughters, Danita Smith-West and husband Keith of Pekin, Indiana and Kelly Buckner and husband Bill of Scottsburg, Indiana; four sons, Robert Lee Smith, Jr. of Denver, Colorado, Micheal Smith of Austin, Indiana, Brent Bowles and wife Lori of Lexington, Indiana and Jason Bowles and wife Amy of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, George Smith and wife Annie of Henryville, Indiana and ten grandchildren, Duston, Courtney and Ian West, Danica Noriega-Smith, Colton, Ashton, Carter and Dare Bowles, Gabby and Jenna Buckner.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, June 1, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Dan McDonald officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Thursday and after 9 am Friday.
Interment will be in New Bethel Cemetery near Chelsea, Indiana.
