Betty Sue Matthews

Betty Sue Matthews, 81, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
She was born on October 27, 1937 in Hazard, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William Couch and Cynthia (Combs) Couch. Betty married Wayne B. Matthews, Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1993.
She was a former owner and operator of the old Northside Grocery and owned and operated several other businesses in the community. Betty was a former member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #1693 in Scottsburg, Indiana and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Wayne B. Matthews, Jr.; a brother, Billy Couch; three sisters, Joan DeHart, Brenda Ramsey and Deanna Cole. Survivors include her companion, Melvin Thomas of Sellersburg, Indiana; a daughter, Debbie Rasche (Virgil) of Oakland City, Indiana; a son, David Scotty Matthews (Gayle) of Crothersville, Indiana; two sisters, Vivian Baker (Danny) of Scottsburg, Indiana and Carol Scifres (Charles) of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, Noah Rasche (Melanie), Brooke Newberry (Aron), Josh Rasche (Tina Chen), Stephanie Matthews (Dillon Hopper), Ethan, Susanna, David and Katie Matthews and four great grandchildren, Noelle, Maya, Luke and Mason.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home with Mayor William Graham officiating.
Visitation: 10 am to 1 pm Sunday at Collins Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Scottsburg Cemetery.
