The Washington County Community Foundation has deemed 2018 The Year of the Super Hero in honor of their 25th anniversary.
As a way to commemorate this milestone, the WCCF is hosting The Wall That Heals May 17-20. TWTH is a half-scale traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., that includes a mobile education center and informational tent.
WCCF Director Judy Johnson is excited about the event and what it will mean to the public.
“This is very close to Memorial Day and also while school is still in session,” she said, adding that she hopes the schools will take advantage of the wall and the exhibit while it is here.
The memorial will be open 24 hours a day to accommodate everyone’s schedule.
It will be set up at the YMCA on the soccer fields and there will be no cost to the public for viewing TWTH.
The foundation has created a Facebook page for those interested to like and follow: The Wall That Heals Washington County. They will be posting information and updates about the event as it gets closer.
“We will need approximately 100 volunteers,” said Johnson, explaining that volunteers will be there to help people find names and answer questions. Since the wall will be open 24 hours a day, they are looking for volunteers for all times.
“We will have a website up and running soon that will allow for volunteers to sign up.”
WCCF board member Tanya Dustin will be the key volunteer for the project and the coordinator for the event.
