Quilt show Friday and Saturday

Halloween themed quilts are one of Patsy Ragland's favorites.

You can browse through rows of hand-crafted works of art this Friday and Saturday at the 38th annual Washington County Piecemakers Quilt Guild's show. It will take place Friday 10-4 and Saturday 10-3 at Southern Hills Church, 1645 S. State Road 135.

There will be numerous colorful quilts on display, both from members and the general public. Admission is $5. There will also be quilting demonstrations and vendors offering supplies.

Patsy Ragland is this year's featured quilter. Each year, the guild selects the work of one member to feature.

Patsy got her start sewing as a child, sitting at her mother's feet. She first made garments, including clothes for her daughter and many, many wedding dresses over the years.

Her first foray into quilting wasn't very successful. She said she relied on information found in an encyclopedia. It turned out to be all wrong. She took lessons from the old Baer Fabrics in Louisville and eventually joined the Piecemakers. She loves the camaraderie and support guild members offer, stressing nobody is ever criticized, but help is always offered if needed.

Many of Patsy's quilts feature a holiday theme, with Halloween – her favorite – being the most prevalent.

Stop by the show this Friday or Saturday to meet Patsy and other guild members and enjoy some time viewing these works of art.
