SEYMOUR, Ind.—A full call-out of yellow plow trucks is underway across Indiana Department of Transportation’s Southeast District in anticipation of significant snowfall that begins tonight (JAN 11).
Drivers will work 12-hour shifts until the snow event subsides. Here’s the call-out schedule per Southeast District subdistrict:
Aurora 29 plow trucks begin patrolling area highways at 8 p.m.—expecting up to 6” of snow accumulation.
Bloomington 32 plow trucks begin patrolling area highways at 9 p.m.—expecting 5” to 7” of snow.
Columbus 29 plow trucks begin patrolling area highways at 10 p.m.— expecting 4” to 8” of snow.
Falls City 31 plow trucks to be dispatched at 8 p.m.—15 from the Sellersburg unit and 16 from the Corydon unit—expecting up to 6” of snow.
Madison 30 plow trucks begin patrolling area highways at 8 p.m.—expecting 4” to 6” of snow.
INDOT mechanics will fully staff subdistrict garages during the snow-ice event.
All state highways and interstates were pre-treated with salt brine today or yesterday. A wet front-edge to the weather event could wash away pre-treatments, but INDOT drivers are prepared to begin salt applications as soon as conditions warrant.
Driver tips
Motorists should limit unnecessary travel, but if you must be on the road, please keep the following in mind:
- Reduce speeds: "Ice and Snow, Take It Slow." Plan ample time to reach your destination safely. Be patient.
- Safe distance. Don’t tailgate and give snowplows room to work: "Don't Crowd the Plow."
- Pay attention. No distractions. Focus on safe driving. Be aware of surroundings—and drive defensively.
