Neva Simpson Melton
Neva Simpson Melton, 90, of Richmond, VA, peacefully passed away on March 8th, 2024. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her unwavering generosity and compassionate spirit. Neva dedicated her time to supporting elderly friends and neighbors, often delivering supplies, and sharing heartfelt moments. Her door was always open, ready to welcome anyone in need with a warm meal. Neva delighted friends and family with her famous carrot cake, a testament to her love and care.
Born and raised in Salem, Indiana, Neva was the beloved eldest child of Ernest and Gladys Simpson. Neva was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Orvil Simpson, as well as her great-grandson, Nathan Taylor.
Neva is survived by her brother, Dennis Simpson, and her devoted sons Ronald W. Melton (Eileen) and Rev. Steven R. Melton (Teresa). She is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren Patricia (John II), Rebecca (James), Joshua, and Kate, along with her great-grandchildren Jackson, Drew, Elise, and John III.
With a career spanning many years in the banking industry, Neva made significant contributions at institutions such as the Bank of Virginia, where she served as a Collections Adjuster and Supervisor, and later at Central National Bank, where she worked diligently in Loan Recovery for 25 years. A dedicated member of Winn's Baptist Church in Glen Allen, VA, for 47 years, Neva's faith was an integral part of her life. In her later years, she found joy and community at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC actively participating and embodying her Christian values.
Funeral services to honor Neva's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16th at Bliley Funeral Home with burial to follow, 2:00 p.m. at Winns Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the INM Board, local fire department, rescue squad, church, or a project in Neva's memory. Condolences may be made at www.blileys.com.
