Wanda Mae Davis
Wanda Mae (Zink) Davis passed away on September 21, 2024 at the Bee Hive Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was 99 years old. Born February 4, 1925 in Salem, to Hazel Grubb Zink and Merle Zink, Wanda was the oldest child of three, with two younger brothers, Lanny Zink of Salem, In and Charles Irvin Zink of Columbus, Indiana. Wanda went on to graduate from Salem High School in 1943, where she loved attending home economics classes and spending time with friends. Wanda then married her lifelong sweetheart, Robert L. “Bob” Davis on December 13, 1943 and together they farmed for many years just outside of Salem. Wanda was also employed at BF Goodrich prior to her retirement.
During their 59-year marriage, Wanda and Bob had four children, Danny Wayne (Karen) Davis of Salem, Tony Davis of Salem, IN, David (Eileen) Davis of Sellersburg, IN, and Marla Sue (Rodney) Mills of Salem, IN. Their children blessed them with 12 grandchildren: Ondra (Gary) Crockett of Clarksville,IN, Shanda (Mark) Messmer of Jasonville, IN, Daniel Davis of Louisville, KY, Scott (Melody) McDill of Scottsburg, IN, Drew (Brook) McDill of Scottsburg, IN, Jakelin Davis of Salem, IN, Cainen Davis of Salem, IN, Andre (Michael) Staley of San Antonio, TX, Dillon (Sierra) Davis of Charlestown, IN, Dawson Davis of Sellersburg, IN, Lynndi (Michael) Lockenour of Charlestown, IN, and Kelsey Lockenour of Salem, IN. As the years went on their grandchildren also welcomed 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren into Wanda’s life. Wanda leaves behind her brother: Charles Irvin Zink of Columbus, many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well.
Wanda was a longtime member of the Salem Church of Christ, participated in many events with the Salem Senior Center, and belonged to several local card playing groups. During retirement her social calendar was always full as she greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, and working in her garden. Everyone who knew her will her bright smile, contagious laughter, and positive view of life. Family was of utmost importance to Wanda, so she created many opportunities throughout the year for everyone to join together at her home in celebrations of many holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Lanny Zink, her son, Danny Wayne Davis, her daughter, Marla Mills, and her granddaughter, Kelsey Lockenour.
Services will be held Thursday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, IN. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8PM and Thursday from 11AM-time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Bee Hive Home in Scottsburg or The Salem Senior Center.
