Eugene Shaw displays bags of plastic pellets Tian Yuan will produce while his wife, Denise, watches. The company held a press conference this morning to announce plans to open a facility in Salem.

A producer of plastic resin materials will open in Salem by the end of May. Tian Yuan will start with one shift, but plans to grow and expand, with an eye toward filling three shifts and creating up to 35 jobs within the next three or four years.

The business is a joint venture with Shaw Brothers, a veteran New Albany business. Tian Yuan purchases post-production plastics which includes such items as plastic car parts damaged in production. The raw material will be shipped to Salem – the warehouse is already filled – fed through a grinder then turned into pellets which will be sold. Primary customers are now located abroad in China, Tawain and several other nations, with hopes of growing the domestic clientele as well.

The company will be located in the old Child Craft facility.

Andrew Shaw will be the operations facilities manager. He praised Salem, both the officials for their help and cooperation, as well as the people he’s encountered.

“I’ve had a fantastic time in the city so far and met tons of townspeople,” he said. “The qualities and traits people have here are definitely what we want.”
