New closings announced

Washington County Commissioner, Phil Marshall, has announced that effective today, July 29, the Government Building and the Clerk’s Office will be closed to the public until 8/12/2020.

County offices ordered closed

After a county employee tested positive for the coronavirus, Phil Marshall, president of the Washington County Board of Commissioners, issued closure of the Goverment Building on Martinsburg Road. And due to reports that the positive employee had possibly been into the Washington County Clerk’s office, it was also closed to the public.

Stephanie Rockey, WC clerk, issued this statement regarding her office, "For clarification, myself nor any of my staff are on a 14-day quarantine. We are like before, closed to the public, but will all be on hand to answer phone calls and conduct business by appt. We are still accepting payments by mail. Marriage licenses and candidate fillings for school board will be conducted by appt.  The safety of everyone is our top priority and we will continue to exercise health practices as recommended by the Washington County Health Department.  Thank you for your understanding during this time of heighten public pandemic stress." 

According to the Washington County Health Department, all employees of that office were sent home. In addition, some of the ventilation systems in the government building are shared and therefore it was decided to err on the side of caution and close the whole building.

All offices can still conduct business as was being done during the initial closure for the pandemic. Before visiting one of the offices that have been shut down, call ahead to find out their policies on conducting in-house business.

According to Marshall the closure remains in effect until Aug. 12, 2020.
