Mosquito season extended due to warm temperatures

The extended warm weather this fall is making mosquitoes particular dangerous this year according to Chris Boling from the Washington County Health Department.
According to state health officials, there is an increase in the number of human West Nile Virus cases at this time. Mosquitoes will continue to bite as long as temperatures at dawn or dusk are over 60 degrees. Mosquitoes will bite until after the first hard freeze.
There have been 19 documented cases of WNV human disease this year in Indiana. None have been in Washington County.
Avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are active, especially late afternoon, dusk to dawn and early morning); apply an EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus or para-menthane-idol to clothes and exposed skin; covered exposed skin and install or repair screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out of the home.
