Lake Salinda cleanup

On Saturday, July 27th, 12 volunteers joined together to clean-up trash and debris at Lake Salinda in Salem!

To get the morning started, everyone was given breakfast, a t-shirt, gloves, trash bags and debriefed on where the clean-up would take place. A special thank you to our sponsors: Ace Hardware of Salem for providing the gloves and trash bags; H&R Bakery for providing donuts; Tractor Supply Company for providing the water.

After a couple hours of picking up trash the volunteers returned to the CenterPeace to see all 300 pounds of trash loaded into the city’s dump trucks! Thank you to the Mayor’s office and especially Joy Bierly for all your support in having a clean-up site, dump trucks, and access to CenterPeace for the morning.

Another special ‘Thank You’ to Jill and Macey Roll for helping with registration and getting everyone signed in on the day of the clean-up! Also, without our volunteers, this event couldn’t have been a success; so, THANK YOU to all our volunteers for making this a great event!

Mark Twain said, “The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” I hope we can take that mindset in our community and ‘get ahead’ of our trash before it causes damage to the world around us. We may have made great strides towards being proactive, but there is plenty of ground still yet to cover!
