10 Safety Tips for a Safe Halloween

The Indiana State Police in Sellersburg wish everyone a safe Halloween!

Although everyone loves to get lots of candy, the most important thing is safety!

Listed below are some safety tips the Indiana State Police would like to share;

1) Know what the dates and times are in your local community for trick or treating.

2) A flashlight, glow stick, or reflective material on the costume increases visibility.

3) Always trick or treat with an adult or in a group and use the buddy system when going from    house to house.

4) Please walk on the sidewalks and not in the roadway. Make sure you look both directions before crossing the street.

5) Only go trick or treating at houses that you trust and where the front porch light is on.

6) Only wear masks that allow you to easily see where you are going.

7) Only accept treats at the doorway of the house. Never enter the house of a stranger.

8) If a child gets separated from the group, have them stay where they are located and ask an adult for help.

9) Always have an adult inspect the candy before consuming.

10) Motorists, please slow down and drive with extra caution where trick or treaters are present.

The Sellersburg State Police Post hopes these few safety tips help you enjoy your night out trick or treating. Have fun and stay warm!
