Koda/Cato, Catherine the Great, Barnaby Jones/Sherman and Bic are all waiting for you at the Salem Animal Shelter!

Dogs

• "Sheba" is a 2-year-old Mastiff mix, about 60 pounds and needs to gain a few. She was abandoned with "Jax" for about a week after her previous owners moved and didn't take the dogs with them. Likes: televised tennis, Christmas lights, hot dogs. Dislikes: raw broccoli, Furbies, being abandoned.

• "Frisk" is a male beagle mix. Likes: Vin Diesel movies, hot dogs, chasing squirrels. Dislikes: Olives, slow cars, being stuck inside on nice days.

• “Mhera” is a 3- or 4-year-old, female shepherd mix who’s not great with young children and has no interest in other dogs, but she does know how to sit and beg and walks well on a leash. Likes: alone time, nature documentaries, when things go her way. Dislikes: goldfinches, artificial sweeteners, people on Facebook who can’t make a post without mentioning the essential oils/dietary supplements/acne creams they sell on the side.

• “Calla” is a pit mix, 2-3, brought in with another dog in October. She would like to find someone who will take care of her. Likes: chicken nuggets, romping outside, going for walks. Dislikes: thunderstorms, puddles (could get her feet wet), Frank Sinatra.

• Another "Sheba" is a plott hound mix, female, 2-3, around 50 pounds. Likes: eggnog (not spiked, please), popcorn, romping in the snow. Dislikes: green peppers, shellfish (living or dead), The Godfather movies.

• “Hoss” is a male pit bull, 2 years, who has been waiting at the shelter for several months, wondering why no one seems to want him. He’s fine with other dogs but absolutely not fine with cats. About 60 pounds. Very friendly, loves everyone he meets, and is always up for a ride in the car. He’s very strong and has a lot of playful energy. He’ll need a home with a fenced yard and no small children. If you would like to fill out an application for Hoss, please email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: hot dogs, bratwursts, steak. Dislikes: cats, when someone steals his spot on the couch when he was only going to be up for a minute, getting wet.

• “Barnaby Jones” (AKA "Chip" or "Sherman") is a 2- or 3-year-old beagle mix who had a pretty horrific and untreated case of fleas, but his hair is back and he's looking quite handsome. Very social and playful, about 40 pounds. He smiles, prances, plays, snuggles, and loves to be with his people. He his house and crate trained and good with dogs. He hasn't been tested with cats or children but staff have no concerns with either. If you would like an application for him, please email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: Taco Tuesday, flea heartworm preventatives (proper care in general, really), beef jerky. Dislikes: willful negligence, fleas, various other pests.

• “Sassy" is a Walker hound, 2, female. A bit of an escape artist, she can get out of a 4-foot fence and requires physical fencing taller than that. Likes: freedom, collecting wall art with the saying "Live like someone left the gate open," curating her Pinterest boards. Dislikes: restrictions, when a pin on one of her Pinterest boards gets deleted because the original pinner stole something copyrighted, fake British accents.

• "Hecate" is a female pit mix, brindle. Came to the shelter full of milk, but the shelter hasn't been able to find her owner or any puppies. Likes: steak, a nice salad, heavy metal music. Dislikes: no easy access to birth control, the rising cost of health insurance, pickles.

• "Sugar" is a pit mix, 1-2, female. She's working on housebreaking and loves to hang out with kids. She's around 50 pounds. If you would like an application for Sugar, email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: bounding, looking out the window, watching Grey's Anatomy. Dislikes: Shonda Rhimes (how many favorite characters have to die before you're satisfied, Shonda? How many?), televised fishing (really?), when her phone doesn't ding when she gets a message.

• "Koda" (AKA Cato) is a male husky mix, 2 years, about 60 pounds. The family who surrendered him said he is housebroken. Likes: snow, prancing in the snow, being a drama queen. Dislikes: having to come inside from the snow, getting his paws wiped off, The Establishment™.

• "Yogi" is a senior male retriever mix, deaf. He was lying in his bed, crying at the shelter, so he was taken to a foster home, where he's been much happier and enjoying all the attention. He is heartworm negative. If you would like an application for him, please email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: warm places to nap, feeling the vibrations through the floor of his humans wandering around, a nice massage. Dislikes: being alone, when people think they can't talk to him just because he can't hear, young whippersnappers (squirrels and rabbits) in his yard.

• "Bruno" is a male Jack Russell-beagle mix, 4, about 30 pounds. Likes: being outside, a soft bed inside, a good game of fetch. Dislikes: those booties people put on dogs' feet, disembodied whistling, ghosts.

• "Sansa" is a female shepherd mix. Needs to be an only child. Likes: lemon cakes, naps, really good barbecue. Dislikes: dry hamburgers (she'll still eat them, but come on, burgers aren't that hard), mustard, being woken up before noon.

• Another "Hoss," this time, a male shepherd mix, 2, kicked out of the house by jealous Yorkie siblings. His humans tried to make it work, but the Yorkies weren't having it. If you would like an application, email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: Scrolling through his human's Twitter, cheesecake, rampant organization. Dislikes: when the Pinterest button takes you to the blogger's whole Pinterest account instead of saving that recipe to your board, when commercials on the radio repeat twice in the same commercial break, bad driving.

• "Miranda" is a female Walker Coonhound, 1 year or less. Likes: interpretive dance, designing her own business cards, binge-watching the Home and Garden network. Dislikes: potholes, limp vegetables at the supermarket, cilantro.

Cats

• "Catherine the Great" is a female, Maine Coon mix, with a calico pattern on the back of her neck. Purrs constantly. Surrendered due to a divorce. Likes: snuggling, amusement park rides, LARPing. Dislikes: snow, rain, when she forgets her coffee in the microwave and it gets cold.

• "Bic" is a gray and white kitten. Likes: chilling in boxes, magnets, chasing poltergeists from the house. Dislikes: things that are wet, static electricity, poltergeists.

• "Teddy Bear" is a male cat with lots of personality. Likes: being snuggled (but on his terms), watching uncomfortable weather from the comfort of the couch through the window, ending dust bunnies. Dislikes: carrots of any kind, unexpected ghosts, the existential dread he feels once weekly.

• "Jenny" is a 7-year-old calico cat, front declawed. Likes: watching out the window, binge-watching CNN, reading The Atlantic. Dislikes: when outside the window is boring, people who yell, election season.

Adoption fees include rabies shot and normal cost of spay and neuter. Adoption cost for dogs is $80 and $50 for cats. The return-to-owner fee is $10, plus a $2 per-day board fee and proof of rabies shot or another $10.
