Farback Friday

My apologies for missing Wayback Wednesday. We're bringing you Farback Friday to make up for it!

This photo, from 1994, shows our coverage of the first big marijuana bust of the season. Marijuana eradication was a huge effort on both the state and local level when I became a reporter. Our staff has written countless stories on marijuana eradication efforts over the years. There were several years when Washington County led the state in marijuana production. Getting rid of this illegal substance was a big priority for law enforcement and for many years, it was the biggest drug problem in the county.

How times have changed.

Now, 25 years later, there are at least 10 states in which marijuana is fully legal. Who could have imagined that even 10 years ago? Indiana is not one of those states and, in fact, has not legalized marijuana for medical use, much less recreational. But who knows what the future holds? One thing's for sure – I don't think we'll ever run a front page photo like this one again.
