City candidates prepare for election

Janine Lee is seeking the At-Large council seat while Rick Stewart (front) is seeking the District 2 seat. Lee faces Jody Smedley; Stewart is up against Warren "Truck" Jones.

Candiates in the Salem Municipal Primary attended a Meet and Greet last Monday evening. The event was sponsored by Leader Publishing Company and was held in the Salem High School cafeteria. Candidates had the opportunity to meet the voting public and to answer questions from constituents.

Contested races in this year's primary are:

Republicans for Mayor: Robert "Bobby" Fletcher, Justin Green, Ron Haendiges and Christie Luckett.

Democrats for Mayor: William "Bill" Ackerman and Richard "Bobby" Longworth.

Republicans for the At-Large City Council seat: Janine Lee and Jody Smedley.

Democrats for the District 2 City Council seat: Warren "Truck" Jones and Rick Stewart.

The primary is Tuesday, May 7.
