Book details how to be a blessing

Most people want to make a positive difference in the world; in a word, to be a blessing to others. But what does that look like exactly?

A Salem woman explored that question in her book, "Make Me a Blessing," which has been published and is available locally at Heaven Sent Gifts in Salem and Silver Fox Cafe in Pekin.

Cassia Elder said she was struck one day by Genesis 12:2 which says God will bless us so that we may be a blessing to others. She's loved writing since grade school and she began putting pen to paper, recording her thoughts in a journaling format. Many drafts later, her book took shape.

Elder said "Make Me a Blessing" will help readers discover purpose in their circle of influence, practice gratitude (the catalyst to blessing), overcome the number one enemy of blessing (self-focus), apply practical ways to participate in the blessing cycle and more. The book is perfect for anyone, and is very appropriate for book discussion groups and Bible studies. There is a Bible study guide available.

Elder said the word "blessing" has been overused, which has diminished its true meaning, often equating it with good fortune or luck. "'Make Me a Blessing' redeems the meaning of the word blessed, acknowledges how blessed we are, and reminds us of the reason why we are blessed to be a blessing."
