April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

PACT plans local activities

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! PACT would like to encourage everyone in the community to join them this month and help bring attention to the hope that one day all children can grow up in a happy and safe environment.

Monday, April 2: The Pinwheel

The pinwheel has come to serve as the national symbol of the great childhoods we want for all children. Throughout April, planting a pinwheel in honor of children in communities nationwide demonstrates how we can all support great childhoods and promote ways to help great childhoods happen.

You can: Plant a pinwheel

You can pick up a Prevent Child Abuse Pinwheel at the Salem Public Library or contact PACT-Laura Barrett at (812) 883-3318.

Tuesday, April 3: Stomp out Child Abuse

“No one can do everything. Everyone can do something. Together, we can do anything. We can Prevent Child Abuse!” Show your commitment to do something by participating in Stomp out Child Abuse Day.

You can: Wear sneakers and silly socks

Wednesday, April 4: Support a Child’s Dream

As Israel Kamakawiwo’ole wrote “Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.” Show your support of a child’s dream!

You can: Wear a shirt to support a child’s activity/sport of choice.

Thursday, April 5: Be a Child’s Voice

Child abuse and neglect have long-lasting effects on the community. Children who have been abused or neglected are more susceptible to poor physical, emotional, and psychological health. Such adverse consequences frequently prevent victims from becoming stable, productive members of society during adulthood.

Because child maltreatment impacts the community as a whole, effective child abuse prevention requires a collective effort from each of us. We have to be diligent in our efforts to speak up for these victims and be a voice they need for prevention.

You can: Wear loud colors to be a child’s voice.

Friday, April 6: Nationwide Wear Blue Day

Individuals and organizations across the US will band together to make a visible commitment to preventing child abuse and helping make great childhoods happen nationwide by wearing blue.

You can: Wear something blue.
