The Washing County YMCA is offering the community a different way to give this holiday season by asking members of the community give the gift of opportunity for Christmas.

The Giving Tree is set up in the YMCA’s lobby and has a variety of ideas offering ways to support youth through the YMCA. It is covered in different shaped paper ornaments all offering a different way to give. Examples are $45 for youth to gain confidence through YMCA soccer for six weeks, $26 for one student to gain membership at the Y for one month and $110 to for one youth to attend YMCA Day Camp for one week when school is out. There are several giving levels to help meet all the needs.

YMCA CEO Kristy Purlee hopes the tree encourages people to give back by helping youth in the community.

“We hope for everyone to take advantage of this giving opportunity,” she said. “The Y will facilitate giving your gift to the families who need it, for the specific services they request. Membership, sports, preschool and out of school time programs all make stronger individuals and therefore, a stronger community. Everyone can play a part in making our community better. The Y wants to help you do it!”

The idea behind the tree is to give all Washington County families an opportunity to grow healthy kids and strong families.

The tree will be up through Christmas Day. Donations may be made directly to the Y at the member service desk or online at www.wcfymca.org by clicking on the “MAKE A CONTRIBUTION” button.
