Senior fun

Euchre partner winners at the center for January are pictured (left to right): Bonnie and Sherman Coomer (second place) and Keith Shantz and Bob Jones (first place).

You must be a member to enjoy events at the local senior center, but you don’t have to be on Medicare to join! Anyone age 50 and older is invited to join the Salem-Washington County Senior Center. Annual membership dues are only $8.

The center offers many games and activities including euchre and corn hole tournaments, billiards, golf, sewing, and yes, they do play bingo. Evenings at the center include line dancing and live music.

The center celebrates members with a monthly birthday lunch. Attend the luncheon during your birthday month and receive a $10 gift card. That's more than you pay in dues!

Older Americans serves lunch Monday through Friday at the center. For an optional donation of $1.40, members age 60 and over are invited to enjoy the hot meal.

Other benefits for age 60 and over members include day trips and free use of the YMCA fitness equipment on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

One look at the senior center’s monthly entertainment calendar tells you a great deal about the tempo of the center. Stop by and pick up a copy or check it out on their Facebook page.

The center, located at 1705 N. Shelby St., is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 812-883-4986 for more information.
