Salem Walmart wins award, donates $10K to AWC

The Salem Walmart store has been busy in the community this past year. After winning the Helen Walton Excellence in Community Leadership Award last year, the staff were eager to repeat that achievement, and did so again this year.

Human Resources Director Brad Gilbert said there were a number of reasons his store was given the award, including a variety of donations and volunteering done by Walmart associates in the county. After all of that and the good news of their Helen Walton Excellence in Community Leadership win, the Salem Walmart wasn’t done giving.

Gilbert said the award came with $10,000 to give to a group in the community.

“We talked to five different groups and a panel here chose AWC [Awareness Washington County],” he said. “The whole amount was required to go to one group to have a bigger impact on a large project in our community.”
