A new gun shop has opened in Salem, located on the city’s east side. Molon Labe Arms is located at 1300B S. Jackson St. (in part of the old liquor store). Its first day of doing business was July 15th.
Owner Clifton Swift is from New Albany, but said he and partner Daniel Hart, a local veteran, wanted to open a store here.
The store’s name is a classical Greek phrase meaning “come and take [them],” attributed to King Leonidas of Sparta as a defiant response to the demand that his soldiers lay down their weapons in the battle of Persians and Spartans in 480 B.C. The Spartans fought to the death against the 10,000 Persians.
The phrase is popular in the gun rights culture; Swift has it tattooed on his forearm. “It’s the way I feel and I decided to carry it on with my business,” he said.

Swift loves guns, always has. When he was just 8 years old, he gave his Dad the money to buy his first gun, a British 303. Sadly, he no longer owns that gun.
His shop, however, is well-stocked with many options. His focus is on used weapons, which he says are more affordable. “But we can order anything,” Swift noted.
Molon Labe Arms carries both hunting and collectible guns, ammunition, bows and fishing and hunting supplies, including live bait. The store also has jewelry safes for sale, buys gold and silver and handles gun transfers. The store also offers consignment sales.

Molon Labe Arms is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Swift noted he’s happy to extend hours to meet customer needs. Call 812.404.4068 for more information and visit the store on Facebook, Molon Labe Arms LLC.
