Looking for: Awareness Washington County graduates

Awareness Washington County has taught servant leadership in Washington County since 1983 and formed an Alumni Association in 2009.  The Alumni Association is looking for graduates to join this Association. Past class members are serving as commissioners, council members, school board members and civic and service group leaders, volunteers with Scouting, PTA, and 4-H, as well as members and leaders in their faith communities.

The AWC alumni are looking for all these people to compile a history of the organization and to form an association that is active in supporting leaders throughout the county.  The group would like the information for their history whether or not you choose to join the AWA Alumni Association.

As a result of past AWC classes, the county has a restored Beck’s Mill, a refurbished Myers Pool, paving bricks and trees at CenterPeace, tables and shelter houses at Lake Salinda, a cleaner environment, “Saved the Bell” at the historic courthouse, donated funds to support the Pied Piper Theater, worked on a Walking Path, exercise equipment and wrote and printed a book about local servant leaders in the community and saw that each third grade child in the county received one.

Each class chose a project through which the community has benefited.  The alumni needs these very class members to join the Awareness Alumni to ensure servant leadership classes continue and to bring vision to the organization.

The Alumni Association would like to update their files and network with every past class member, whether they are still living in Washington County or not.

Anyone who was in a class from 1983-2018 is invited to join the organization as the members unite to strengthen leadership skills and network to do the work needed to make Washington County a better community.

Awareness Washington County and We the Youth currently hold classes in the AWC building at 198 W. Joseph Street, Salem.  The board of directors meets there each month, as well, and the building is also available to the community to rent for various events.

The Alumni Association helps to maintain the Awareness Washington County building on Joseph Street, gives a class scholarship each year, produces two newsletters per year and gives money to the Awareness Fund in the Washington County Community Foundation, as well as supporting the Graduation/Annual meeting in June of each year.  The Alumni Association also provides a home-cooked meal for the Awareness Class each year.

Awareness Washington County Class of 2018 Graduation and Annual Meeting is Thursday, June 14, at 5:45 p.m. at Christie’s on the Square. Please RSVP by June 8.
