The City of Salem has received another generous gift from Kimball International. Last week, the company presented a check for $10,000 to city representatives. Mayor Troy Merry said the money will be split evenly between the police and fire departments and will be used for public safety.

Following last year’s devastating May flood, Kimball donated $25,000 to the city to assist with recovery efforts. This year, said Merry, they wanted to help out again.

“They wanted to give back to the community, and thought they would help through public safety,” he said. “We’re very grateful.”

Lonnie Nicholson, chief administrative officer for Kimball International, noted the company wanted to continue helping the city.

“We are now able to donate to a cause to make the community an even better place to work and live,” he said. “Both of these donations were made through our company’s Kimball International-Habig Foundation, established by our founder Mr. Arnold Habig.”

Kimball has been an employer in Salem for many years and recently expanded.

“Kimball is a great asset to our community,” said Merry. “There are a lot of places in the community that we’re very grateful for and Kimball is certainly one of them.”
