Cost-share available for livestock producers

If you are a livestock producer in Washington County and are planning spring pasture renovations, new watering systems, or just want to address erosion issues around current feeding or watering facilities, the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District may be able to help.

If your operation is within the Mill Creek-Blue River watershed, funds are currently available through the Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) cost-share program. This program provides assistance with installation of practices such as pasture seeding, watering systems, heavy use area protection (HUAP), access roads, fence, and more. LARE is funded through a grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources-Division of Fish and Wildlife.

To see if you qualify, or for more information,  please contact Shelbie Stephenson, MCBR Watershed Coordinator, at (812) 883-3006 ext. 3, or stop by the office at 801 Anson Street in Salem to learn more about projects. Seeding dates can begin as early as July/August. The Mill Creek-Blue River Watershed has cost-share funds available to landowners in the critical areas of MCBR. Call Whitney at 883-3006 ext. 3 to see if you are available for cost-share.
