Chamber members enjoy lunch at Destination

It was a beautiful summer day Thursday as approximately 45 chamber members enjoyed a catered lunch at Destination Bed and Breakfast for their monthly meeting.

In addition to their bed and breakfast business, they also have an antique shop, offer catering, hold special community events and now have a barn where they can host special events, such as weddings. They are finishing their barn, complete with air conditioning and heating, in time for the fall season.

Other community events discussed included:

• The St. Vincent golf fundraiser is planned for Sept. 27 at Hidden Creek golf course in Scottsburg. Team registration will stat at 11 a.m. and lunch will be provided.

• Melissa Richardson spoke to the group about education opportunities through Indiana Tech. She said the school caters to working adults and she is interested in talking with companies who offer tuition reimbursement to employees.

•Kara Blake, an Awareness Washington County board member, spoke about the upcoming year for AWC and reminded everyone they are still taking names for class members. She said the class is $250 and is a one year commitment. The group meets one Thursday a month.

•Taylor Martin, member engagement and marketing director at the YMCA, said the YMCA now offers family nights once a month. She also mentioned that fall soccer registration is now open. For more information, call the YMCA at (812) 883-9622.

• Chelsey Miller, YMCA Youth First Director, spoke about the YMCA after school program picking up when school starts at Salem Community Schools Aug. 2. She said they will offer homework help and snacks.

She mentioned that they are also looking for staff help with the after school program and encouraged anyone who might be interested to contact her at the YMCA at (812) 883-9622.

• Mosier Family Chiropractor will be collecting school supplies for their Back to School campaign. Supplies may be taken to their office on East Market Street and will be donated to all three county school corporations. Those who bring in $20 worth of supplies will receive a consultation, x-rays and an exam.

• Jason Wade spoke to the group about the Rotary Club’s mother-son event planned for Aug. 18. Mother Son Adventures in Pirates Cove will be held at Wonder Valley Youth Camp from 4-8 p.m. 

There will be fun, games, food, drinks and prizes. Tickets are $25 per couple and $5 for each additional son. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 10 and can be bought at Loy and Fordyce Insurance, YMCA, Jason Wade State Farm, First Savings Bank and Country Cookin’.

• Chamber Director Tara Kritzer said Friday Night on the Square is Sept. 14 from 6-10 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. Contact her at the office for more information. Sign up forms will be printed in The Salem Leader and Democrat and can be found on the chamber website.

Kritzer also announced that this year’s annual dinner will be held Nov. 3.

Next month’s chamber meeting will be held at Piper Museum.
