The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications for multiple positions. The positions and requirements are as follows:

Jail Commander

STARTING SALARY: $57,000

Take home vehicle/fuel

PREVIOUS JAIL COMMANDER EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED

Application Period: Now through August 30, 2024 at 4:00 pm.

Work schedule: As assigned by the Sheriff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

-Directs all daily jail operations to assure proper supervision and protection of staff, facilities and detainees.

-Continually reviews and evaluates jail facilities and other related programs and activities.

-Monitors new legal requirements and developments in corrections operations.

-Assists the Sheriff with development and administration of the jail budget.

-Assures security and proper operation of all jail facilities and physical plant operations.

-Performs jailer duties as needed to assure continual supervision of detainees.

REQUIREMENTS:

-Ability to meet all department hiring and retention requirements.

-Complete knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Washington County Jail.

-Ability to effectively direct and administer jail operations.

-Knowledge of detainee rights and legal protection.

-Knowledge of area law enforcement demands and court procedures and operations.

-Ability to assure proper maintenance of department records and files.

-Ability to prepare accurate documentation and reports.

-Ability to effectively communicate with the public.

-Ability to operate all assigned vehicles, weapons and equipment.

-Ability to take affirmative action.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality of department records and information.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION NEEDED:

-Certification or ability to successfully complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training for Jailers.

-C.P.R. certification

-Completion of required handgun and taser training and certification.

-Must possess a valid driver's license.

Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and pass a drug screen.

Merit Deputy

The testing process will consist of a physical agility assessment (using ILEA Exit standards), written testing, background investigation and a Merit Board interview. Applicants MUST APPEAR at 8:00 am on Saturday, AUGUST 17, 2024 for physical agility testing and a written exam following the physical agility testing.

LOCATION of agility testing: Eastern High School Football Field, 1100 N. Eastern School Road, Pekin, IN 47165.

Physical Agility Testing Includes: 1. Vertical Jump: Minimum 16 inches. 2. Sit Ups: Minimum 29 in one minute. 3. 300 Meter Run: Maximum 71 seconds. 4. Push Ups: Minimum 25 no time limit. 5. 1.5 Mile Run: Maximum 16 minutes 28 seconds.

Written Exam: General knowledge, reading comprehension and writing skills.

Benefits include: $52,980 STARTING SALARY $1,500 Sign on Bonus for applicants who are Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Tier I or out of state equivalent police officer. May reside in adjoining counties, BUT NOT MORE THAN 35 MILES FROM THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT. Paid Holidays, Vacation Days and Sick Days, Longevity Pay, Health, Dental and Vision Insurance available. Access to local Health Clinic, take home patrol vehicle, department cell phone, pension, 8 hour shifts, off every other weekend.

Starting Salary: $37,400

8- and 12-hour shifts, off every other weekend
